psychotherapyMy approach is psychodynamic or insight-oriented psychotherapy. For example patterns of behaviour often stem from past experience or early life and continuing to shape and limit our lives in the present. By bringing unconscious issues and conflicts to the conscious mind, it's possible to start to deal with them and to feel more in control. Understanding the emotional causes and beliefs behind these patterns is the beginning. Processing the reasons certain behaviours were developed and working through different aspects can lead to a whole new way of operating where happiness and equilibrium are within reach, focusing attention on the present and the future, in line with your own goals about what you would most like to achieve for yourself and others through undergoing psychotherapy. Essentially my job is to guide and enable you to make permanent change. Please get in touch for a chat about how I can help you. |
what to expectSessions usually last 60 - 75 minutes and occur weekly. Essentially psychotherapy is a "talk therapy" that may include Gestalt therapy. It does not involve Hypnosis. It is not necessary to re-experience trauma or uncomfortable experiences from the past. The number of sessions varies, dependent upon the depth of issues that a client may have and how ready they are to make permanent change. It will not work if you don't want to be there. Psychotherapy is about problem-solving and having to space to sift through things, so it is not a quick fix, in fact you won't be 'fixed'. Psychotherapy requires your readiness to enter into the therapeutic relationship enabling you to develop understanding, resolve unwanted behaviours, rehearse new behaviours or ways of being and build resilience. It's therefore important to find a good match.
